The five-habit summary

The desk's responsible-play guidance is built around five habits. They are not rules and they are not a guarantee. They are the working notes the desk writes for itself and re-reads the next morning.

  1. Set a fixed session budget before you sit down. Decide the buy-in, the stop-loss, and the time cap. Write it down. The math of rummy rewards players who leave on schedule.
  2. Take a break every 45 minutes. Step away from the device, drink water, walk for five minutes. Tired players throw the wrong suit.
  3. Use the platform's deposit-limit and self-exclusion controls. They live in the account menu. A platform that hides them is a platform to leave.
  4. Never chase losses. A second deposit to recover the first is the most common pattern of harmful play. The platform's session reminder is there for a reason.
  5. If play stops being fun, contact a recognised support line. Regional helplines and self-exclusion registries are listed below. Sharing the problem with a family member or friend is the first useful step.

The session budget sheet

The session budget sheet is a single page the desk recommends every player fill in before sitting down. The fields: date, planned session length, planned buy-in, planned stop-loss, planned stake value. The sheet is a paper artefact, not a digital one. The act of writing the numbers down is the discipline.

An empty evening table. The best sessions end here, on schedule, not at the end of a long chase.

Regional helplines

The desk lists regional helplines and self-exclusion registries for the markets the reading room covers. The list is verified quarterly. If a helpline on the list is unreachable, the desk removes it on the next refresh and notes the change in the audit ledger.

The reading room does not endorse any single platform, regulator, or helpline. The list is provided as a working reference, not as a recommendation. The first useful step is always to share the problem with someone you trust.

Self-exclusion

Self-exclusion is the platform's voluntary ban on the player opening a new account or logging into an existing one. The exclusion period is set by the player (30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years). Most platforms honour the exclusion across all their products. Some platforms extend the exclusion to sister sites. The exact scope is in the platform's responsible-play terms.

What the desk does not do

The desk does not publish testimonials from players who have recovered from harmful play. Recovery is a private process and the desk respects that. The reading room's contribution to responsible play is the working reference, the helpline list, and the audit ledger. Anything beyond that is the work of a qualified support professional.
