The four fields

  1. Date. The date of the session.
  2. Planned session length. The maximum length of the session in minutes.
  3. Planned buy-in. The maximum deposit at the start of the session.
  4. Planned stop-loss. The threshold at which you leave the table.

How to fill it in

Fill the sheet in before the session, not during. Put it in front of the device. Cross off the planned session length when the timer hits. Cross off the planned stop-loss when the threshold hits. Leave when one of them is crossed.

Why a paper artefact

The paper artefact is the discipline. The act of writing the numbers down is the moment the player commits to the budget. A budget that lives in the player's head is not a budget; it is an aspiration.

What the desk recommends

The desk recommends every player fill in a session budget sheet for at least one session a week. The habit is small. The compound effect is large.
