Why sequence probability matters

The probability of any given sequence appearing in a 13-card hand is a working reference, not a forecast. Card counting changes the real probabilities in any given round. The desk uses the table below as a calibration, not a guarantee.

  • At least one pure sequence of three: ~94%
  • At least one pure sequence of four: ~74%
  • Two pure sequences: ~36%

How to read the table

The figures in the table are approximations from a 13-card hand drawn from a fresh deck, with a single joker in the deck. They are intended as a working reference. Card counting changes the real probabilities in any given round.

What card counting does to the table

If the table has thrown three 8s, the probability of drawing the fourth 8 in your next pick is much lower than the textbook figure. If the table has thrown three kings, the probability of drawing a fourth king is similarly reduced. The discipline is to count the table's throws as carefully as your own picks.

Why this matters at show time

Show time is when the math of the round settles. A declaration that is mathematically probable but not yet defensible is a declaration waiting to be invalidated. The sequence probability essay is the read, not the declaration.
